Inspiration

I instantly knew that I wanted to attempt to create a fully functional pinball machine. I looked at all sorts of vintage pinball machines from the 1900s and drew inspiration from those designs.

Starting Out

I quickly realized that making a pinball machine in a newer 3D software was a little ambitious. Since Spline was still in beta, a lot of the physics didn't work and I had to spend much more time looking for a workaround. The only fix I wasn't able to figure out was the bumpers and ended up needing to leave them as cubes.

I had spent too much time trying to figure out the physics of Spline and the other areas of my design ended up suffering as a result. The machine was working perfectly, but I knew that I needed to give my website a rebrand for it to live up to the gameplay of my machine.

I wanted to tie my pinball machine to a website that had the same element of play. Even though I was explaining the functionality and history of pinball, I was able to create a playful design through my typography and animation.
